Account-Based Marketing (ABM) with the 42matters Explorer

Business-to-business (B2B) companies that target larger accounts, with longer sales cycles and more lucrative deals, are turning to account-based marketing (ABM) in growing numbers. In this blog post, we discuss how the 42matters Explorer can help bolster ABM.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

What is Account-Based Marketing (ABM)?

Put succinctly, account-based marketing (ABM) is a business marketing strategy predicated on engaging with a set of uber-specific target accounts. It’s especially popular among B2B companies that pursue deals with larger businesses, since these relationships tend to be more lucrative and require longer sales cycles.

Unlike traditional lead-generation techniques which are often premised upon “casting a wide net,” ABM is hyper-personalized. It requires tight alignment between sales and marketing teams to create bespoke campaigns designed to engage best-fit and other target accounts.

Introducing the 42matters Explorer

The 42matters Explorer is our flagship app market research tool. It’s a visual platform that enables users to peruse all published and unpublished apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

It offers insight into 15+ million iOS and Android apps and games, as well as the 2.6+ million companies that publish them, making it a fantastic tool for building audiences, lead generation, lead qualification, lead scoring, and other marketing and ABM techniques and strategies.

Indeed, Explorer users will have instant access to publisher (i.e. company) details like Developer Name, Physical Address, and Web Domain. They’ll also be able to leverage dozens of filters to refine their lead qualification processes even further.

Here are some the Explorer’s filters:

  • Top Chart Rankings, Downloads, Ratings, and Review Sentiment
  • Categories, Genres, IAB Categories
  • Family Categories, Content Ratings, and Content Descriptors
  • App Monetization Insights (Price, In-App Purchases, Contains Ads)
  • Technology Insights (Integrated SDKs, Permissions, App-Ads.txt)
  • Localization Information (Languages, Country Availability)
  • Audience Insights
  • Similar Apps
  • And more!

How to Export Leads From the 42matters Explorer

Exporting leads from the Explorer is super easy. But before we explain how to do so, make sure you’ve applied all filters relevant to your lead query. In this example, we’ve applied the following filters:

  • Operating System: Android
  • Published Status: Published
  • App Category: “Books & Reference”
  • Price: Free
  • Language: English and English (UK)
  • Country Availability: Europe, North America, and Oceania
  • Downloads: At least 50,000

This particular query yields 6,291 leads, check it out:

Next, you’ll want to make sure you’ve configured the columns according to the most relevant data for your ABM needs. You’ll have 38 options, ranging from App Title, to Developer, Physical Address, Website, Downloads, and much, much more. See here:

2. Configure Columns Account Based Marketing — 42matters

For lead generation, Developer (Company Name) and Website tend to be the most important columns. Indeed, these are the only attributes you’ll be able to import into LinkedIn Ads campaigns.

That said, if your ABM strategy relies on other factors, such as Localization or Technical Specifications, be sure to add the corresponding columns (Languages, Country Availability, Integrated SDKs, etc.).

In any event, once you’ve adjusted your filters and configured your columns, you can download the results as leads. Here’s how:

  1. Click the Export Apps button at the top of the Explorer dashboard:

    3. Export Leads for Account Based Marketing — 42matters

  2. Apply your download preferences, then click Export:

    4. Finalize Export — 42matters

How to Import 42matters Leads Into LinkedIn

The next step is to import this data to LinkedIn to create highly-targeting LinkedIn Ads campaigns. Keep in mind that LinkedIn requires a minimum of 1,000 company names per campaign. However, in our experience, it’s best to upload somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 companies since not all businesses will have profiles on the platform.

Here’s how to import app publisher leads into LinkedIn:

  1. Open up the LinkedIn Ads Campaign Manager:
